Test right next to your CRM

With the UAT Studio extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, your tests open in a side panel next to the system you test. Read the step, do it in Salesforce or Dynamics 365, and click Pass or Fail right next to it. A failed step takes a screenshot, the link to the record and your browser along, without copying anything by hand.

Watch it first

Connecting the extension and recording results in the side panel, next to the CRM (1 minute, subtitles in the picture).
A failed step: the screenshot with a mark, the record link and the error messages of the page, and the issue the test lead sees (1 minute, subtitles in the picture).

The videos show a made-up CRM and made-up people. Your Salesforce or Dynamics 365 looks different; the side panel works the same.

Install and connect

1

Install the extension

  1. Install UAT Studio in Chrome or Edge. Your test lead tells you where to get it.
  2. Click the UAT Studio icon in the toolbar of the browser. Pin it with the puzzle piece to keep it in sight. The side panel opens.
2

Connect it to UAT Studio

  1. In the side panel, click Connect. UAT Studio opens in a new tab; sign in there if you need to.
  2. On that page, click Connect the extension. UAT Studio emails you a code.
  3. Type the code and click Connect.
  4. Go back to the side panel: your tests are there.

You can also open that page yourself: Test next to your CRM at the top of My tests, shown once the extension is installed.

A sign-in of its ownSigning out of UAT Studio in the browser does not disconnect the extension, and the other way round. To stop, open the menu (⋯) in the side panel and choose Disconnect.
Using it

Run your tests in the side panel

  • Choose the Project at the top. The list shows your test cases, the ones with priority Must first. To test shows what is still open; All shows everything.
  • When your test lead gave you a role or user to test with, the side panel says Log in to the CRM as … at the top.
  • Click a test case. Each step has its action, the expected result and the test data, with Pass, Fail, Blocked and N/A. Click the same button again to undo it.
  • A comment goes under the step; it is saved when you click elsewhere.
  • Next test → goes to the next test case. ← All tests goes back to the list.
  • In the menu (⋯): Open in UAT Studio, Refresh and Disconnect.

Everything you record in the side panel is in UAT Studio at once, exactly as when you record it under My tests.

Using it

When a step fails

Click Fail. The side panel asks what went wrong and gathers the details at once:

PartWhat it is
What happened insteadWhat you saw instead of the expected result. Required.
Screenshot of the pageA screenshot of the tab you are testing in. Drag over it to mark what went wrong (an orange frame); Undo mark removes the last one. Take screenshot again takes a new one, No screenshot leaves it out.
Link to the recordOn a Salesforce or Dynamics 365 page: the record you are on. Untick it to leave it out.
BrowserFor example Edge 141 on Windows.
Error messages on the pageError messages that Salesforce or Dynamics 365 wrote in the background, if there were any. None is ticked: tick only what is relevant.

Then click Save as Fail: the step is Fail with your text and the ticked details as its comment, and the screenshot is its evidence. Save and log an issue also logs an issue on that step, with the screenshot attached and the record link filled in, so the developers can open the record at once.

Issues made by the test leadWhen your project has Issues are made by the test lead switched on, there is no issue button: the test lead reviews your fail.

What the extension can see

  • It reads nothing from your CRM by itself. Only when you save a failed step does it send what you chose: the screenshot, the link to the record, your browser and the error messages you ticked.
  • It keeps the last error messages of Salesforce and Dynamics 365 pages in the page itself, so you can add them to a fail. They leave the page only when you tick them.
  • It sees and changes the same as you in UAT Studio: your own tests and results, nothing of other testers.

If something goes wrong

  • The side panel says No screenshot. The browser only lets the extension take a screenshot right after you clicked the UAT Studio icon on that page. Click the icon in the toolbar once and choose Take screenshot. Allow for all sites gives the extension that permission for good; you can take it back in the settings of the extension.
  • No record link. The link is only added on a Salesforce or Dynamics 365 page. Open the record in the tab next to the side panel, then click Take screenshot again.
  • Your tests are not there. Check that you connected with the email address your test lead added you with. Open the menu (⋯) and click Refresh.
